pezen hal

In this project, three lamps are made based on different neighbourhoods of the city of Rotterdam. All lamps are handmade using recycled electric wire.

This lamp is based on the neighbourhood Kop van Zuid. Previously, this area was a place with a lot of import and export. The pattern on the lamp is based on a map, representing the routes that the boats used to take. Today, the neighbourhood is known for its skyscrapers, offices, and hotels. The small connected circles represent the many small rooms inside the skyscrapers.

The name “Pezen Hal” is made up of two parts. “Pezen” refers to working hard in the Rotterdam dialect, and “Hal” refers to the Holland America Line, which used to depart from this location.
