For this project my class and i collaborated with a flouring company called Forbo. They developed a new kind of linoleum and we made experiments, to see what is possible with this material. We presented these fist experiments at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven as you can see in the picture on the right. After my exposition I chose to make a partition wall out of one of my samples.
This partition wall is changeable in to four different shapes and with this I show the flexibility and stiffness of the material. By pushing the material into a different direction, you can create the patterns by yourself. The wall also has two different sides: a darker- and a lighter side. By doing this, it is possible to change and adjust the partition wall to the different colours in your house. You can also play by combining the different patterns, to create your own unique wall.
I created the wall by using the cnc-machine, to cut the right shapes and then also drilling the holes at the right places. This would make the hand sewing much easier. When the machine was finished, I started sewing the different patterns together, so it would have a 3D effect. I made a simple frame which would not distract too much, that fitted to the object so I could hang it from the ceiling. This frame is connected to two pulleys, so you can change the height and sides more easy.
I chose to make a partition wall, because myself and a lot of other opinions say, that people have a strong need to change the interior of their house (frequently). With a movable wall you can change a room in your house completely, without putting to much effort in it. With the wall that I designed you are able to change the pattern and the colour easily to fit your needs perfectly.
