Luna Haverkorn is a textile designer exploring how material behaviour can shape form, movement, and interaction. Her practice combines material experimentation and craftsmanship to create tactile, transformable objects that invite curiosity and play. She studied Product Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam before completing a Master’s in Textile Interaction Design, specializing in knitting, at the Swedish School of Textiles.

Her work sits at the intersection of art and design, where the process of making plays an essential role in the development of each piece. Rather than beginning with a predetermined form, Haverkorn develops ideas through observation, experimentation, prototyping, and hands-on exploration. She works with both traditional and unconventional materials, allowing their properties and possibilities to guide the design process.

Inspired by structures and behaviours found in nature, Haverkorn translates material qualities into three-dimensional constructions. She approaches knitting and sewing not only as textile techniques, but as methods for developing new forms of construction. Her sculptural objects are characterized by intricate details, rhythmic patterns, movement, and transformation.

A recurring focus in her work is the relationship between objects and the people who encounter them. Rather than prescribing a single function, her interactive textile sculptures invite people to discover their own ways of engaging with them — by sitting, balancing, reclining, folding, or even hiding inside. This openness creates opportunities for play and unexpected interactions, encouraging a more attentive relationship between people, objects, and their surroundings.

Through material exploration, craftsmanship, and a focus on sustainable approaches to making, Haverkorn continues to investigate the possibilities of textile design. Her work transforms knitted materials into dynamic, responsive objects that evolve through use and invite new ways of interacting with the world around them.
